As part of Hypothesis Haven Science Club's mission to teach children how doctors and scientists discover, treat and prevent illnesses, we are excited to share opportunities for children to take part in clinical research.
Clinical trials help test new treatments for diseases.
They are very safe and careful tests and research. But, for many reasons, people with Hispanic and Latino heritage do not commonly get to be part of these tests.
Latinos make up almost 19% of the people in the United States, but only make up 10% of people in research run by the National Cancer Institute and 4% of the people in research run by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It's important to make sure that everyone gets a chance to be part of these research tests so that new treatments can work for everyone.
Baylor College of Medicine's Latin American Trans-ancestry INitiative for OCD genomics (LATINO) research study aims to help researchers understand the connection between Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Latino, Hispanic, and Brazilian people by looking at genetic factors, the things that make you, YOU! Here are some details about this research study.
Purpose: Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine are running the LATINO OCD Study to help make connections between people of Latino, Hispanic, and Brazilian heritage and genetic factors, such as family history. The Baylor researchers will work with scientists in 15 other countries to grow OCD research and improve OCD treatments in the future.

You will give a spit sample for genetic screening. Before agreeing, you will be given all of the information for what your genetic information will be used for. You can rest easy knowing you’re in good hands! You will also be given $25!
Online or In-Person Visit(s)?
